Carlton will keep Heath Scotland on their list, but plan to re-draft the AFL veteran as a mature rookie-listed player.

The 33-year-old midfielder won the club best and fairest award last year and played 20 games this season.

"Heath Scotland will remain at Carlton next season, and is being delisted with the intention of being redrafted as a rookie," the Blues said in a statement.

He is one of eight delisted Carlton players ahead of next month's national draft.

Among them are Eddie Betts, who has gone to Adelaide as a free agent, while Shaun Hampson was traded to Richmond.

Aaron Joseph, Marcus Davies, Jeremy Laidler, Patrick McCarthy and Luke Mitchell were cut from Carlton's list.

They have also delisted rookie-listed players Andrew Collins, Rhys O'Keeffe, and Frazer Dale.

The Blues had a busy trade period, recruiting free agent Dale Thomas from arch-rivals Collingwood as well as Andrejs Everitt (Sydney) and Sam Docherty (Brisbane).

They have also upgraded Ed Curnow and Tom Bell from their rookie list.

Meanwhile, Dean Laidley has left St Kilda and joined the Blues on a two-year deal as their midfield coach.
