NSW firebrand David Klemmer has declared the Blues won't cop any Queensland "cheap shots" in State of Origin II, as the war of words between the two sides continues to escalate ahead of the MCG showpiece.
Blues skipper Paul Gallen dubbed the Maroons as "grubs" and "disrespectful" on Tuesday, and Klemmer said him and his NSW teammates simply won't cop Queensland's perceived niggling tactics as they did in Origin I last month.
"If someone is going to cheap shot you, obviously you are not going to cop it," Klemmer told AAP.
"There were a couple of things they did (in Origin I), but if it's going to get out of hand (we will respond).
"But we are not worried about that, we will just keep playing footy because that is what is going to win us the game.
"You just have to play footy, but if it is on it is on, if you see your mate in there, you are in there too."
Klemmer shapes as a key weapon for the Blues off the bench, and the Canterbury forward is growing in confidence after his Test debut last year and his first Origin match in Sydney.
"I am taking all this experience in and really enjoying it," he said.
"I thought my defence in game one was pretty good, that was what I trained all week on, I knew my attack would be there because I am just a big body.
Klemmer said making sure his defence was up to scratch was key.
"I just have to do what I did last game, but have a bit more impact," he said.
"I just have to make sure I don't make any errors.
"We have to hold the footy a bit better. In the second half we came out good, but we just dropped the ball a few times, I think we gave them about four or five repeat sets on our line and we can't do that in Origin, it is a big game, a fast game and you just get tired."
