Cadel Evans' team sporting director John Lelangue has quit in the wake of a disastrous Tour de France for BMC Racing outfit.
The Belgian oversaw Australian Evans' historic tour victory in 2011 during his six years with the American-owned team.
However, BMC Racing announced his immediate departure "for personal reasons" on Monday, just a day after the finish of the 100th Tour de France in which the big budget team under-performed.
Team leader Evans failed to back up his Giro d'Italia third placing by contending for a podium spot, finishing 39th.
His expected successor Tejay van Garderen was 45th and their best-placed rider was Switzerland's Steve Morabito in 35th, over 80 minutes behind winner Chris Froome of Team Sky.
BMC's best stage result was van Garderen's runner-up finish on the legendary Alpe dHuez - their only podium result.
BMC Racing team owner Jim Ochowicz said in a statement: "We respect John Lelangue's decision. He will be pursuing other opportunities and challenges.
"We thank him for his contributions to the development of our team, and wish him the best in the future."
The 36-year-old Evans has another year to run on his contract but his future in the Tour de France is unclear.
He has hinted the team may want to promote van Garderen to leader next year and indicated he'd prefer not to race the tour unless contending for the title.
