Bobridge primed for cycling record ride

Jack Bobridge will try to break cycling's hour record on Saturday night in the midst of a massive weekend for the sport in Victoria.

Coach Tim Decker could be talking about priming a racehorse or selling a home ahead of Jack Bobridge's cycling world record attempt.

Bobridge will try to break the world hour record, one of cycling's most famous marks, on Saturday night at the DISC Velodrome in Melbourne.

The SA rider, who already holds the world individual pursuit world record, will try to break the mark of 51.852km that Austrian Matthias Brandle set last October.

Decker said Bobridge had pulled up well from his outstanding effort at last week's Tour Down Under, where he won a stage and led the race for two days before claiming the King Of The Mountain prize.

"He's in a good place, he's recovered well from Tour Down Under and I can see him being right around the mark," Decker said.

"There's been a lot of work go into him this week, make no mistake about that, as far as recovery goes - nutrition, physio, osteo, massage, all that sort of stuff.

"He has been a racehorse this week, you could say that."

Decker and Bobridge will not say what mark they are aiming for and the coach was like a home seller on Friday.

Bobridge will have his initial target, or reserve price, and then the dream total.

"I have a minimum target and then we have a target that we think he can reach if everything comes together on the day, the conditions are good and he can overextend himself fully," Decker said.

Bobridge's ride will headline the last session of the Australian track cycling championships.

It also comes in the midst of a massive weekend for the sport in Victoria.

Geelong will host the women's Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road race earlier on Saturday.

The men's race on Sunday will mark the end of Evans' unparalleled career.
