Body believed to be of missing Vic man

Police believe they have found the body of an 86-year-old Melbourne man who was missing for more than a week.

A man's body found near a bogged car east of Melbourne is believed to be that of missing 86-year-old Walter Wilhelm.

A ground and air search had continued for more than a week for Mr Wilhelm, who was last seen driving from his Wonga Park home on December 18.

A car belonging to Mr Wilhelm was discovered in East Warburton about 6pm on Sunday and a body was discovered nearby.

It is believed the man is Mr Wilhelm but he has not yet been formally identified and police said they will await the results of an autopsy.

Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.
