A body has been discovered in a burnt-out car in Melbourne but police say it's not suspicious.

A body has been found in a burning car in Melbourne but police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

CFA crews found the body inside the car parked in a residential street in Dandenong, after a resident was alerted to the fire by a car alarm in the early hours of Thursday.

Police later said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
