Body of drowned Qld teen found

Five people have died at swimming spots in the Cairns region over the past five months, including a man who slipped and fell from a waterfall this week.

The body of an 18-year-old man who lost his footing and fell from a waterfall at a popular Cairns swimming spot has been found.

Police divers from Brisbane found the body of local teen Paddy Ram about 4pm (AEST) on Wednesday at Crystal Cascades, just north of Cairns.

Mr Ram, a promising soccer player, was swimming with friends in a restricted area when he slipped and fell into a deep pool.

Cairns Senior Constable Heidi Marek told AAP the tragic circumstances of the man's death was a warning to others.

"We're asking people to observe warning signs, as they're there for a reason," she said.

Snr Const Marek says swimmers often don't realise how unpredictable and fraught with hazards waterfalls are, especially during the wet season.

Mr Ram is the fifth person killed at swimming spots in the Cairns region in the last five months.
