Body of man missing in NSW dam found

Police divers have uncovered the body of a 26-year-old missing man from a dam in northern NSW.

The body of a 26-year-old man who went missing in a dam on Wednesday in northern NSW has been found by police.

The man failed to return to shore after his boat's motor stalled.

He and his 57-year-old companion were attempting to test the motor in Split Rock Dam, near Tamworth, before the motor misfired, leaving them stranded.

Without a life jacket, the 26-year-old attempted to swim back to shore to get help while his companion looked for an oar to row back.

When the man in the boat made it to shore, he notified police when he couldn't find his friend. Police divers discovered the 26-year-old's body just after lunchtime on Thursday.
