Body removed from Vic siege explosion site

A man's body has been removed from a western Victorian property where a siege took place.

A man's body has been removed from a Victorian property after a weekend siege and explosion.

Two policemen were injured in the blast in the town of Derrinallum in western Victoria on Saturday after trying to negotiate with a man, who was wanted over a violent incident.

Police removed a body from the property on Monday.

The body was taken to the coroner for a post-mortem examination and formal identification, police said on Tuesday.

The siege began when officers went to investigate a violent incident that occurred earlier in the week.

Police said the man at the property became irrational and threatened self-harm.

Trained negotiators were called in but it's believed the man set off a device, injuring the two senior constables.

One of the officers suffered critical head injuries and remains in The Alfred hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The second was treated for minor injuries and has since been discharged from hospital.

The bomb response unit was on Tuesday still combing the rural property.

Police and other local authorities were to hold a town meeting on Tuesday night to update the public on the incident.

The highway remains blocked to traffic on the western side of Derrinallum and is expected to be closed until Friday afternoon.
