Body retrieved from Wollongong units

A body has been retrieved from a Housing NSW unit complex in Wollongong.

A crime scene has been established after a decomposed body was recovered from a Housing NSW unit complex in Wollongong.

The remains were discovered at the property on Crana Place, Mangerton about 11.50pm on Thursday.

Police are yet to identify the body, which was found in a laundry within the complex.

A local cafe worker said the unit block was a "nasty" place.

"If you've ever watched Housos you'll get an idea," Con Gregs told AAP.

A nearby resident said the unit complex was known for drug activity.

"I walk my dog past there every day and regularly you'll see junkies there shooting up," she told Fairfax Media.

The woman said the issues with drugs had escalated in recent years, despite regular complaints to Housing NSW.
