Former Boomers mentor Brett Brown's dream start as a NBA head coach has come to end - and it was partly thanks to an Australian.

Andrew Bogut and the Golden State Warriors handed Brown's Philadelphia 76ers their first loss of the season 110-90 on Monday night.

Former Sixers All-Star Andre Iguodala made a career-high seven three-pointers and scored 32 points for the Warriors, while Stephen Curry added 18 and 12 assists for the away win.

Bogut, who missed all four summers through injury when Brown was at the Boomers' helm, scored just four points.

Labelled the league's worst team in the pre-season, the Sixers defied all odds with successive victories over the Washington Wizards, two-time defending champions Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls.

But staying undefeated was never much of an option after the opening minutes.

An on-fire Iguodala set the pace early with six threes and 27 points in the first half - including an early contender for play-of-the-season with a behind-the-back, midair assist to David Lee.

Lee scored 14 points in the first half to help Golden State lead 66-42 at halftime.

Sixers rookie point guard Michael Carter-Williams, the Eastern Conference player of the week, missed 13 of 17 shots and scored 18 points.

Carter-Williams joined Shaquille O'Neal as the only NBA players to win a player of the week award to open a career.

The Minnesota Timberwolves also suffered their first defeat of the season in a heart-breaking 93-92 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

The Timberwolves nearly erased a 23-point deficit midway through the third quarter to stay unbeaten, but to no avail.

In other action, Jerryd Bayless keyed a 15-point fourth-quarter rally to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 95-88 home victory over the Boston Celtics.
