Victorian paceman Scott Boland has urged Australia's selectors to give him another crack in the death-bowling role, saying he learnt valuable lessons from Tuesday's five-wicket one-day win over India.
Boland made a bright start to his ODI career, conceding just 12 runs from his first four overs against India at the WACA Ground.
But from there it went pear-shaped, with Boland finishing with 0-74 from 10 overs.
His last two overs - the 48th and 50th of the innings - were particularly costly as India peeled off 30 runs to finish at 3-309, with opener Rohit Sharma (171no) doing the bulk of the damage.
Boland's yorkers are usually a strength, but when some of his yorker attempts fractionally missed the mark, Sharma punished them for six.
"I only missed a couple by not too far," Boland said on Wednesday.
"But when you're bowling to someone who's on 150, they're going to hit them for six.
"I hit a few (yorkers) where he only got a one or a dot. But the margin for error is tiny.
"I'd like that (death bowling) to be my role.
"I know it's quite tough, and some days things are going to go against you. But when you do have the good days, they're really rewarding."
Boland is likely to get another crack in Friday's clash with India at the Gabba.
But opener David Warner and all-rounder Mitch Marsh won't be present.
Warner is on maternity leave for the rest of the series, with his wife Candice set to give birth to their second child soon.
Marsh has been rested from the second one-dayer in a bid to reduce his chances of suffering another soft tissue injury.
Usman Khawaja has been called up to replace Warner in the squad, with John Hastings taking Marsh's spot.
Warner's departure opens the door for Shaun Marsh to return to the staring XI.
Marsh hasn't played an ODI for almost a year, but his hot form in Test, T20, and domestic one-day ranks this summer is set to be rewarded with a Gabba call-up.
Australia fielded an inexperienced bowling line-up against India at the WACA.
Boland and Joel Paris were making their debuts, leaving 25-year-old Josh Hazlewood to spearhead the attack.
Hazlewood led from the front superbly, finishing with 1-41 from his 10 overs in a high-scoring match.
"He's a fantastic bowler," Boland said.
"Even just standing behind him in the nets the other day watching him warm up, you can see the beautiful shape he has on the ball and how effortless it is for him."
Australia lead the five-match series 1-0.
