Bond signs for Brisbane Heat

Bowling coach Shane Bond joins Kiwi compatriots Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum as a key figure for Brisbane Heat in this summer's Australian Big Bash.

Successful bowling coach Shane Bond has signed as an assistant coach for Brisbane Heat in the Australian Big Bash.

Bond will link with head coach and former Black Caps teammate Daniel Vettori in the Twenty20 league starting in December.

The 40-year-old former pace bowler oversaw rapid improvement in New Zealand's bowling depth and quality during a three-year stint as Black Caps bowling coach.

He left that post after the World Cup to join Mumbai Indians, who won the 2015 Indian Premier League.

Bond is looking forward to making the transition from Indian to Australian conditions.

"They are arguably the two leading T20 competitions in the world so I'm keen to get to grips with the Big Bash after being impressed with the standard as an outsider looking in," he said.

Vettori described Bond as an excellent tactician, particularly at T20 level.

Brisbane's playing roster includes Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum.
