Boomers suffer defeat to Lithuania

The Boomers have gone down 91-78 to Lithuania as preparations heat up for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

The Australian men's basketball team have suffered the first defeat of their World Cup preparations, going down to Lithuania 91-78 in Klaipeda on Monday.

The Lithuanian's jumped to an early 17-7 lead during the first quarter and remained in front the entire match, eventually claiming a 13-point victory in front of a sold-out home crowd.

The fixture took on added significance with the two teams set to battle in Group D at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain later this month.

Veteran David Andersen was the standout for the Boomers, posting an equal game-high 19 points and five rebounds.

Brock Motum provided spark off the bench, with 10 points while Matthew Dellavedova (eight points and six assists), Cameron Bairstow (seven points and six rebounds) and Joe Ingles (seven points and five assists) kept the Boomers in the game.

The Boomers continue their preparations with a match against Finland in Helsinki on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST).
