Booy fired as Go Ahead Eagles go backwards

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Struggling Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles fired coach Foeke Booy on Sunday as they plunged into relegation danger after a home loss on Saturday to Vitesse Arnhem.

Booy had already announced his intention to leave at the end of the season but a run of five successive defeats has seen the club replace him with Alfons Groenendijk, a statement said.

Go Ahead Eagles have won only twice since the winter break and scored four times in their last 11 matches.

Booy joined the Deventer club in 2013 after they won promotion. They sit second from bottom with 23 points from 28 matches.
