Booze means AFL ban for Demons quartet

Four Melbourne players were ineligible for AFL selection last week because of a drinking session.

The bad news keeps coming for Melbourne with the revelation that four players were banned from AFL selection last week because of a drinking session.

Jay Kennedy-Harris, Ben Kennedy, Dean Kent and Jake Spencer had some drinks after the previous weekend's VFL match, breaching the team's alcohol policy.

They will be eligible for selection again ahead of next Sunday's match against Carlton.

It has been a tough weekend for the Demons, who boasted a four-game winning streak heading into Friday night's big match against Sydney.

The Swans beat them easily and Tom Bugg faces a lengthy suspension for his punch that concussed Callum Mills.

Jack Viney (foot) and Dom Tyson (knee) added to the growing casualty list.

Jeff Garlett and Christian Salem were also injured for the Sydney game, meaning at least one of the four suspended players would have come into the senior side.

Instead the Demons recalled defenders Mitch White and Josh Wagner, while Jayden Hunt was thrown forward with minimal effect.

Kennedy-Harris, Kennedy and Kent were named among Casey's best on Saturday in the VFL.
