The Australian Border Force has moved to reassure Hajj pilgrims they won't be targeted at airports simply because of their race, religion or destination.

The agency issued a fact sheet on Tuesday outlining procedures for smooth border clearance such as arriving at the airport no later than two hours before flight departures and a reminder about declaring cash amounts of $10,000 or more.

The annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca starts in mid-September.
