Activists in Bosnia say the government is failing survivors of rape and other sexual violence committed during the Bosnian war in the 1990s.

Participants at a global summit in London raising awareness of the issue have recalled how sexual violence was first made a war crime under the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague.

The United Nations estimates tens of thousands of women and men were victims of rape and other forms of sexual violence in Bosnia.

Lejla Mamut, from the advocacy group Track Impunity Always, based in Sarajevo, says some have spoken out about their experiences, including before the UN tribunal.

But she's told Kristina Kukolja, many remain marginalised by society, and the state must do more to help improve their situation.
