Botha silent on bowling action clearance

South Australian captain Johan Botha is remaining silent on being cleared of having an illegal bowling action by Cricket Australia.

South Australian captain Johan Botha is remaining tight-lipped about being cleared of an illegal bowling action.

Botha cancelled a scheduled media conference on Thursday, a day after his bowling action was cleared by Cricket Australia.

The SA Cricket Association said Botha was pleased to be cleared, but didn't want to speak about it further at this time.

The South African-born offspinner passed biomechanical testing after being reported by umpires for a suspect bowling action in SA's one-day match against Victoria on October 4.

The 31-year-old was also cited on the same suspicion while playing for South Africa in his Test debut in 2006, and also during a one-day international three years later.

Botha was cleared by biomechanical tests after being required him to bowl six deliveries from each of his repertoire - an offspinner, quicker ball, and `flicker' ball.

The tests found his action for all deliveries was within the allowable elbow extension of 15 degrees, with an average extension of nine degrees.
