Nick Kyrgios's US Open adventure is over after his mixed doubles partner withdrew following a freak locker-room accident.
Canadian starlet Eugenie Bouchard is also in doubt for the singles after slipping and falling after teaming with Kyrgios for an entertaining first-round win over Kiwi Artem Sitak and Elina Svitolina on Friday night.
A Wimbledon finalist last year, 21-year-old Bouchard sustained a head injury and will continue to be assessed by on-site medical personnel at Flushing Meadows.
"The medical staff has recommended that Ms Bouchard withdraw from today's competitions and Ms Bouchard is following that advice," tournament director David Brewer said in a statement.
"No determination about competing in the singles competition has been made at this time.
"Ms Bouchard will continue with medical evaluation and treatment for the remainder of the day. An update on her condition will be provided later today."
Bouchard, seeded 25th, is due to play Italy's Roberta Vinci on Sunday for a place in the quarter-finals.
But she had been scheduled to partner Kyrgios against fourth seeds Martina Hingis and Leander Paes in the mixed on Saturday, as well as women's doubles with Russian Elena Vesnina.
Bouchard had taken special pride Friday in being the only woman remaining in all three events at the Open.
