Bouchard, Sharapova on collision course

A possible grudge match looms at the Madrid Open with Eugenie Bouchard likely to face Maria Sharapova - who she branded a cheat last week - in the second round.

Eugenie Bouchard is on course for a potential second-round meeting with Maria Sharapova at the Madrid Open.

The Canadian, who recently said Sharapova should not have been allowed to return from her drug ban, beat Alize Cornet of France 6-4 4-6 6-1 on Saturday.

Sharapova plays 17th seed Mirjana Lucic-Baroni of Croatia in her first-round match on Sunday.

American Madison Keys suffered a surprise first-round defeat. The world No.10 crashed out 6-4 4-6 6-4 to unseeded Misaki Doi of Japan, who had never previously beaten a top-10 player.

Australian duo Daria Gavrilova and 16th seed Samantha Stosur both get their campaigns under way on Sunday.

Gavrilova, the world No.26, will face Catherine Bellis while Stosur has been drawn against Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo.

Meanwhile, Britain's Johanna Konta's struggles on clay continued as she exited in the first round after a third-set capitulation against Laura Siegmund.

Konta, the tournament's sixth seed, was 3-0 up in the decider, but the in-form German rattled off five games in a row to steal a 3-6 7-5 6-4 win.
