Bouchard suffers first-round WTA knockout

Last year's Wimbledon runner-up, Eugenie Bouchard, has continued her indifferent form with a first round loss at the Topshelf Open.

`S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 9 AP - Back on her favoured grass surface, top-seeded Eugenie Bouchard has suffered a stunning first round loss at the Topshelf Open in the Netherlands.

Bouchard, who last year became the first Canadian to reach a grand slam singles final at Wimbledon, was beaten by by Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-4 1-6 6-4 on Tuesday.

Bouchard reached three consecutive grand slam semi-finals last year but is going through a difficult season, having lost nine of her past 10 matches, which has led to her dropping out of the top-10 rankings.

She also lost her opening match at the French Open.
