Australian Steven Bowditch's horror form slump has extended to a third US PGA Tour event.

The 32-year-old winner of two tour titles is equal last after shooting an opening round 10-over 81 in strong winds at the Valspar Championship, including four bogeys, two double bogeys and a triple bogey.

It came just four days after he set an unwelcome record at the no-cut World Golf Championships event in Miami, shooting 81-80-80-84 for a 37-over-325 total, the highest in the history of WGC events.

In his previous event, Bowditch carded an 80 as he missed the cut at the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles.

Bowditch is already 13 shots adrift of Valspar Championship leaders Keegan Bradley, Charles Howell and Ken Duke who carded four-under 67s as they coped best with the wind blowing across the tough Copperhead course at Innisbrook in Florida.

Bowditch's problems with his errant driver continued as he finished with a miserable 15 per cent driving accuracy stat.

However he's in some good company as world No.1 and defending champion Jordan Spieth shot a 76 and could be headed for another missed cut, while Australia's former US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy had a 78.

Youngster Cameron Smith is the leading Australian, in a large group tied eighth at one-under.
