He has accumulated a record of 47-0 with 26 KOs since making his professional debut in 1996.
Along the way he has beaten a host of other top title-winning fighters and champions including Miguel Cotto, Saul Alvarez, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah, Arturo Gatti and Diego Corrales.
A fight with Filipino boxing icon Pacquiao has been mooted for several years, but recent reports suggest it is now closer than ever to finally happening.
While any formal announcement of a fight would probably be made in the United States, Mayweather is bound to be asked for comment about it at his only media conference in Australia in Melbourne, which is expected to be his first official media engagement of the year.
One person Mayweather looks certain to meet during his Australian visit is potential opponent, Anthony Mundine.
