A 10-year-old boy has been charged following an early morning fire at a Queensland police beat shopfront.

A 10-year-old boy has been charged with arson following a fire that destroyed a police beat shopfront in northwest Queensland.

Police allege the building on Short Street in the Mount Isa suburb of Pioneer was deliberately lit about 1.45am on Saturday.

Several explosions were heard when ammunition and at least two gas bottles went up in flames.
