A four-year-old boy has died after a being hit by a car in Queensland's southeast.

The child was riding his scooter in Kingston, a suburb of Logan, when he was struck early on Sunday afternoon.

He sustained head and chest injuries and died at the scene.

The death takes Queensland's Easter road toll to seven.

The figure was a "sad indictment" on the state, Inspector Ivan Sikorsky said.

"(It) is just not acceptable," he said.

He said many of the fatal accidents in Queensland had been avoidable, put down to driver inattention, speeding, alcohol and potentially drugs.

"This looks like to be the worst Easter we've had in several years," he said.
