Boy, 9, rescues toddler brother from pool

A nine-year-old German boy has been hailed a hero for resuscitating his two-year-old brother after he fell into a garden swimming pool.

German authorities are lauding a nine-year-old boy as a hero after he followed first-aid instructions over the phone and revived his two-year-old brother who had fallen into a swimming pool.

Kassel police say the toddler, Rudolf, was briefly left by his grandmother in the living room on Saturday as she went to the bathroom to get a fresh nappy, and he ran outside and fell into the pool.

The older brother, Markus, pulled the motionless body from the pool and called for help because his grandmother understands little German.

When rescue crews arrived, Markus already had his brother's breathing restored. Rudolf received hospital treatment and is out of danger.
