A child has been killed, just two days before Christmas, while playing on a construction site in Sydney's southwest.

An eight-year-old boy is dead after being crushed by concrete slabs on a church construction site, just two days before Christmas.

The child was playing on a pile of concrete slabs when some slipped and fell on top of him.

He was treated by emergency services at the site, in Leppington in Sydney's southwest, before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A report was being prepared for the coroner, police said on Tuesday.
