A teenage boy has been assaulted and racially abused on a Melbourne bus, with his attackers reportedly trying to remove his turban.

The boy, 13, was sitting on a bus in Eltham on February 23 when two males and a female abused and then assaulted him, police say.

His mother, Rajinder Kaur Gill, told the Herald Sun newspaper her son was left terrified and crying after the incident.

"My son was scared and he asked them to stop but they laughed at him and they said there aren't that many stabbings in Eltham," she said.
