Boy watches big sister die in crash

The father of a little girl killed in a car crash in NSW is grieving, saying: "I miss my baby girl so much".

A four-year-old boy's life has been shattered after he watched his big sister die in a horrific car crash west of the NSW Blue Mountains.

Seven-year-old Rebecca Karini was killed when the family car collided with a truck at Portland, near Lithgow, on Thursday night.

Her little brother Eli received minor injuries while her father John, the driver, was uninjured.

"I don't know what to say I miss my baby girl so much," Mr Karini posted on Facebook after the crash.

Rebecca's mother, Donna, revealed online Eli "saw his big sister die".

An off-duty police officer and a doctor tried to save Rebecca's life after the crash but she couldn't be revived.

The driver of the truck involved in the crash was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

The crash has prompted an outpouring of grief in the small community, which is still reeling from the death of an eight-year-old boy who was killed on July 15 when a car hit a tree at Portland.

"What a horrible tragedy to hit our small community only a couple of weeks after losing another young child," Natalie Foodey posted on Facebook.

"My thoughts go to the family of this beautiful young girl.

"And also to the children who will be told tomorrow at school they have lost another friend in such horrible circumstances."

Just over a week later local greyhound trainer John Burrows was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated in his garage.
