Big money deals for Jack Bird and Anthony Milford have left Brisbane captain Darius Boyd scratching his head over when a new Broncos contract will lob.
But the fullback believes it is only a matter of time before he commits his long-term future to the NRL club, saying he has no problem with Bird or Milford being paid more than him.
Brisbane have snared Cronulla star Bird on what is believed to be a four-year, $4 million deal from 2018 and the Broncos are also set to announce a three-year, $2.7 million extension for livewire pivot Milford.
"If a 22-year-old representative playmaker with Jack Bird's talent is earning more money than me, I'm more than comfortable with that," Bird said in his Fox Sports column.
"Same goes for Anthony Milford. In my opinion Milf is a $1 million-plus player."
Boyd said the lucrative deals offered to Milford and Bird had not made any of the remaining 17 off-contract Broncos nervous - himself included.
"I have no concern whatsoever about my own future," he said.
"Obviously it's nice to have things sorted sooner rather than later but I honestly wouldn't have a clue how far away a deal is.
"(But) I will finish my career at Brisbane."
Boyd, 29, expects players to contemplate pay cuts to keep the Brisbane nucleus together before Bird's arrival.
"It's well known the Broncos have a history of players accepting less money than on offer elsewhere to stay and play alongside quality teammates at Red Hill," he said.
"The Broncos do have a lot of players coming off contract this year and have been moving regularly and quickly to lock the boys in one after another.
"This is the ideal way to handle what can be a delicate situation.
"It creates faith among the players when there is a clear direction and timeline for recruitment and retention."
Boyd is excited about the prospect of Bird chiming into the Broncos halves with Milford next year.
"When you think about what Bird can do for a club over the next decade, it's incredibly exciting," he said.
"With Jack, he could be anything. Milf too.
"His potential is a bit scary when you think he's only in his third season playing five-eighth at the top level.
"If he (Milford) is not worth $1 million a year right now, it's only a matter of time until he is."
