Brabham funeral details confirmed

Sir Jack Brabham's state funeral will be held on Wednesday June 11 on the Gold Coast as tributes flood in for the three-time F1 champion.

The state funeral for three-time Formula One world champion Sir Jack Brabham will be held next month on the Gold Coast.

The ceremony has been confirmed for Wednesday, June 11 from 1.30pm at the Southport Church of Christ.

Brabham, who won world titles in 1959, 1960 and 1966, died at his Gold Coast home on Monday aged 88.

His widow Lady Margaret Brabham said tributes for the Australian sporting pioneer, who was the first motor racing driver to be knighted after his remarkable career, had been flooding in from around the world.

"He would have been so proud," Lady Brabham told motorsports website Speedcafe.com.

The date of the funeral will allow Sir Jack's three sons and grandsons to travel from overseas to attend the service while another memorial service is likely to be held in England where Brabham spent most of his career racing and developing cars.

Brabham's grandson Matthew will carry a tribute to Sir Jack on his car for this weekend's Indy Lights race, a support event to Sunday's (Monday AM AEST) Indianapolis 500.

Victorian driver James Davison will also have a tribute on his KV Racing Car for Sunday's iconic race, which Brabham himself competed in three times.

Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo will carry a tribute to Sir Jack on his helmet at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix, the location of Sir Jack's first F1 race win in 1959.
