The grandson of three-time Formula One world champion Sir Jack Brabham will make his Supercars debut at this weekend's event in Perth.

Matt Brabham has been drafted in as a late replacement for Taz Douglas and will race for Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport at Barbagallo Raceway.

Douglas has been ruled out of the event due to a family wedding commitment.

The announcement comes almost a year to the day since 23-year-old Brabham made his debut in the iconic Indianapolis 500 race in the United States for Australian-backed Pirtek Team Murray.

Brabham, whose father Geoff is a winner of the Bathurst 1000 and the Le Mans 24-Hour, was already in Perth for a round of Robby Gordon's Stadium Super Truck Series.

"Obviously this has all come together at the last minute and has been a bit of a surprise, but we will give it the best shot we can," Brabham told Speedcafe.com.

"I am under no illusions about the expectations this weekend, but if I can get a bit of exposure for LDM and get a few laps under my belt in a Supercar then it works for all the stakeholders.

"I will be out there with plenty of guys I used to race karts against, so it should be cool."

Team owner Lucas Dumbrell says getting Brabham on board was a coup.

"To have a member of the Brabham family, which really is motorsport royalty in this country and abroad, is pretty cool," Dumbrell said.

"At almost any other round he would not even be in the country, so it is a bit of a win-win and will hopefully bring the team and Matt plenty of attention."

Bathurst winner Paul Morris, who is also involved in the Stadium Super Truck series, will mentor Brabham in the LDM garage over the weekend.
