Brambles will look to expand its exposure to the oil and gas sector through a $585 million purchase of UK-based Ferguson Group.
The pallet and container business has bought Ferguson for an enterprise value of STG320 ($A584.10 million).
Ferguson provides specialist containers to the oil and gas sector and has regional hubs in the UK, Norway, Singapore, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.
"Combined with our presence in the downstream refining sector through CHEP Catalyst & Chemical Containers, Ferguson Group provides a platform for further expansion of our containers offering in oil and gas," chief executive Tom Gorman said.
The acquisition values Ferguson at 10 times its expected earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation for the 2014 calendar year.
