Brazilian fan group head in murder rap

Football violence is common in Brazil with regular incidences of score settling between groups of hardcore fans - and one is suspected of murder.

The president of the supporters club of Brazilian top-flight side Flamengo is under arrest on suspicion of killing a supporter of rival Rio side Botafogo.

Anderson Clemente da Silva, nicknamed Macula, heads the Raa Rubro-Negra (red and black race) group of Rio's most popular club and had been the subject of a warrant since last year.

He was arrested late Monday in Belford Roxo, north of Rio, police commissioner Otavio Franco said, on suspicion of shooting dead Botafogo fan Luciano Martins dos Santos in February 2012 at Jacarepagua, in western Rio.

Three other people injured in the incident allege Macula was responsible.
