Brazil's Embraer 2013 net profits slip

Embraer has seen its year performance boosted by a better-than-expected fourth quarter net profit showing of $US264.5 million.

Brazilian aerospace conglomerate Embraer has posted a $US342 million ($A380 million) net profit for 2013, down an annualised 1.7 per cent.

The world's third-largest aeronautical group saw its year performance boosted by a better than expected fourth quarter net profit showing of $US264.5 million, a 115 per cent rise on the same period for 2012.

Embraer's 2012 net profits came in at $US347.8 million.

"The company fulfilled its main forecasts for 2013," most notably in terms of aircraft deliveries, net revenue and operating margin, Embraer said in a securities filing.

The company said it had $US18.2 billion of orders for 2013, up 46 per cent on 2012.

In the 2013 fourth quarter, Embraer delivered 32 commercial aircraft and 53 business jets. Across the year, the firm delivered 90 commercial planes and 119 business jets.

Bolstered by the increase and a rise in security- and defence-related contracts, Embraer posted 2013 sales worth $US6.253 billion, up 1.1 per cent on 2012.

The firm's Q4 receipts hit $US2.3 billion for a 21.4 per cent rise on the same period of 2012.

During Q4, Embraer announced it had signed a $US2.5 billion deal with American Airlines for delivery of 60 commercial E-175 planes with an option for a further 90.

Last year, Embraer closed deals, including options, with US airlines for more than 700 E-jets.

This year, the Brazilians are targeting annual revenue of between $US6 billion to $US6.5 billion with scheduled deliveries of 92 to 97 commercial planes, between 25 and 30 wide-bodied aircraft and 80 to 90 jets.

Ranked behind fellow sector giants Airbus and Boeing, Embraer is based out of Sao Jose dos Campos, on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, with a workforce of some 10,000.
