The New Zealand Breakers would love to have point guard Cedric Jackson back for another season, but they're working hard to find a replacement if he doesn't.
The 27-year-old American's future remains uncertain while he hopes for an NBA contract and weighs up likely offers from Europe if he can't get an NBA job.
The 2012-13 National Basketball League MVP on Tuesday tweeted that he had "big decisions to make about NZ".
Later he used the hashtag #nzstressreliever when he headed to an open gym session.
In the meantime, the Breakers have been scouting other potential players in the United States. Previous scouting missions have netted not only Jackson but also Gary Wilkinson and Kevin Braswell.
"We do all right on imports," Breakers general manager Richard Clarke said.
"We have a lot of faith in our system so if Ced elects not to come back, then we're confident we'll be able to get another good player that will help us."
Clarke says Breakers coach Dean Vickerman has been in touch with Jackson but the club says he could easily choose a more lucrative deal in Europe if he fails to get an NBA contract.
"The pull we had with him is that he does consider it home and considers this family," Clarke said.
"But when you do have a player of that quality you always know that there are going to be other people that want him and you do prepare for the fact that he's not always going to be with you."
