Breakers finalise roster with US signing

American power forward Jerrelle Benimon has been signed by the NZ Breakers to complete their roster two months out from the NBL season.

The New Zealand Breakers have completed their NBL roster by acquiring rugged American power forward Jerrelle Benimon.

New coach Kevin Braswell has completed his player puzzle with a 2.03m import he says is both a defensive and offensive threat.

The 27-year-old made two brief NBA appearances for the Utah Jazz in March 2015 and has since plied his trade in China and Germany.

He has also played for various teams in the NBA development leagues without earning a breakthrough contract.

Benimon was highly recommended to Braswell by current Tall Black Isaac Fotu, who played with him last season in Ulm, Germany.

"Not only is he incredibly skilled attacking and defending, he can score in the low post as well as shoot the ball from the outside for a stunning finish," Braswell says.

"He's an elite passer as well, he's going to be great for our team that's for sure."

BREAKERS ROSTER: Shea Ili, Finn Delany, Tom Abercrombie, Jordan Ngatai, Jarrad Weeks, Tai Wesley, Corey Webster, Majok Majok, Armani Moore, Patrick Richard, Jerrelle Benimon.
