Breakers sweep into NBL grand final

The New Zealand Breakers have a shot at a fourth NBL title in five seasons after sweeping Adelaide 2-0 in their semi-final series.

New Zealand Breakers skipper Mika Vukona is confident in his team's ability to do the business whether they meet Cairns or defending champions Perth in the NBL grand final series.

The Breakers gave themselves a shot at a fourth title in five seasons after sweeping in-form Adelaide 2-0 in their semi-final.

Vukona and his men had stuttered heading into the play-offs, dropping three of their last four matches of the regular season.

"But we're here to play and going for that championship right now," he said.

"We really don't care who it is in the final. We're just so happy to be there. Any team, we can take them."

Cairns hold a 1-0 lead in their semi-final against Perth, who are at home for game two, which tips off on Sunday night.

The Breakers opened their series against Adelaide with a thumping 111-82 win in Auckland to end the 36ers' 10-match winning streak.

They completed the job with an emphatic 94-83 result on opposition court.

The Breakers shut down the Adelaide offence while shooting at 53 per cent from the field themselves.

They had five players in double figures for scoring, headed by Cedric Jackson and Ekene Ibekwe, with 18 each.

Jackson again brought his all-round game, adding 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Corey Webster contributed 15 points and Vukona 12, while Tai Wesley came off the bench for 11 points and eight boards.

The Breakers led from start to finish, and built up a 20-point buffer during the fourth quarter.

For the 36ers, Jamar Wilson produced a game-high 23 points, but the Breakers again shut down big man Brock Motum, restricting him to just two points from the free-throw line.

The grand final dates are March 6, 8 and 13.

The Breakers will be at home for game one and, if needed, game three should they face Perth, but will cede home advantage if they meet Cairns.
