Breast implants supply suspended

The supply of Silimed silicone implants, including breast implants, has been voluntarily suspended in Australia and New Zealand.

The distribution of Silimed breast implants has been voluntarily suspended in Australia and New Zealand and surgeons advised not to use them until further notice.

The Australasian distributor, Device Technologies, on Friday confirmed the suspension of the supply of Silimed's silicone implants, including breast implants.

This follows an inspection by German health officials of the Silimed manufacturing plant in Brazil, which found the surfaces of some devices were contaminated with unknown particles.
