Brennan saves best Titans serve for sheds

Gold Coast coach Garth Brennan's press conference serve for his players following NRL defeat against Cronulla had nothing on his dressing room spray.

Gold Coast fullback Michael Gordon hasn't seen the post-match press conference where Garth Brennan labels his team "dumb" and "mentally soft".

He doesn't have to.

What Brennan said behind closed doors to his players following their 26-18 defeat to Cronulla last Thursday was clearly enough.

"I heard his spray to us afterwards, that's all I needed to hear," Gordon said.

"Probably can't repeat any of it on air, it'd get beeped out the whole thing."

Brennan was fuming after the Titans let an 18-10 halftime lead slip against an undermanned Sharks outfit at Suncorp Stadium.

Panicky plays, costly errors and penalties allowed the Sharks to score 16 unanswered points on their way to victory.

Gordon said criticism of the team's performance was entirely valid.

"We're playing dumb," the 35-year-old said.

"It's just too hard to defend back-to-back on the back of silly errors and penalties and stuff like that.

"Then when we get the ball we're all so tired, it's just a cycle and we can't seem to get out of it at the moment."

The Titans host Canterbury on Saturday and Gordon says finding resilience will be the key in turning around their results.

"When we're playing well and we score a try, our next set's really good," the fullback said.

"Even when they've scored against us our next set might be really good and we get in an arm wrestle and then one thing seems to go wrong and we just kick stones for too long.

"We lose that arm wrestle and then we seem to implode for five or 10 minutes. It's those periods that are costing us on the scoreboard."
