The 35-year-old is believed to have been stabbed in his front yard just after midnight on Wednesday, as his wife and children lay asleep.
It's believed Mr Basith went outside to investigate a power outage issue outside his Kuraby home.
Queensland Police said he was attacked by someone armed with an unknown object.
Mr Basith suffered a number of significant wounds.
Islamic Council of Queensland spokesman Ali Kadri said Mr Basith was a family man who leaves behind two children.
“He owned a restaurant and was respected and loved by all members of the community," Mr Kadri said.
“He has helped many in need by providing them with support and was known as a generous person.

“We pray that his family and friends can find patience to deal with this loss. We hope Queensland police can find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
Abdul’s friend Mohammed Hassim was shocked to learn about Mr Basith’s death.
He said the pair had been friends for more than 17 years.
“He’s a very good person, a very good person, he is always humble and very friendly,” Mr Hassim said.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming from Queensland Police said they were investigating whether there was interference with the home’s power supply.
"There's certainly early indication that there might have been interference with electricity. But we haven't confirmed that yet. Certainly, something took him outside,” Det Supt Tony Fleming said.
“We are following up a number of enquiries, but based on the information that we have, we don’t think there is a random person running around the streets of Brisbane.”
Neighbours reported hearing two men arrive in a car, shouting, with loud music, in the middle of the night.

It’s believed hours before he died, Mr Basith was at an evening prayer service, where he was a member at the Kuraby Mosque, located metres from his house.
Mr Basith was active within the Kuraby community, he worked in IT and owned a local Indian restaurant.
Det Supt Fleming said there was nothing to indicate the murder was racially or religiously motivated.
Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage from a nearby train line and are seeking any further security camera or dashcam footage around the crime scene in Saint George Street.
The community is also fund raising to support his widow and children, who are receiving counselling.
Reports on social media indicate the man and his wife had another baby on the way.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the young family by a woman who worked next door to Mr Basith's restaurant. It has raised more than $1500 in just one hour.
"I would see both parents working tirelessly, day and night, to provide the best possible future for their children," wrote the page's creator Sapna Agdas Ahmad.
