Brisbane Lions flying after AFLW victory

Overcoming the Western Bulldogs in last week's AFLW grand final rematch has not just lifted Brisbane's spirits but put their whole season back on track.

Avenging last year's grand final loss hasn't just lifted Brisbane's spirits, it's put their AFLW season back on track.

The Lions thumped defending premiers the Western Bulldogs by 32 points to move to the top of their conference with three matches left before finals.

After two defeats in their opening three matches, Lions forward Jess Wuetschner said the team had done some soul-searching before their grand final rematch.

"We haven't had two losses like that before and it was something that we focused on during the week to get better and bring out a good performance," Wuetschner said.

"After the rocky start to be in the position that we are in right now is a good thing."

Brisbane face Geelong on Saturday in a top of the table clash in Conference B with a victory likely to put the Lions on the path to the finals.

The Cats have made a good start to their inaugural AFLW season with two wins from four games but head north without suspended duo Aasta O'Connor and Maddie Boyd.

O'Connor has been handed a two-week ban for striking while fellow tall Boyd accepted a one-week sanction for rough conduct.

Wuetschner admitted the Cats loom as a bit of a unknown prospect.

"I've seen a little bit of their games," she said.

"Personally I think we'll all be doing our homework for the weekend because we don't know too much about them, they are a new team.

"There's a few familiar faces but at the same time there's not a lot we can go off."
