Brisbane's Kahu in new NRL deal, Boyd next

Buoyed by Jordan Kahu's three-year extension, Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett is confident of locking captain Darius Boyd into a new contract soon.

Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett is confident of finalising a new contract for his captain Darius Boyd as the other pieces fall into place around him.

Winger and in-form goal kicker Jordan Kahu committed to a three-year extension on Saturday, while Anthony Milford signed a four-year deal in May.

Kodi Nikorima, who scored twice on Saturday's 54-0 thrashing of Gold Coast, is also locked in while Jack Bird will arrive from Cronulla to add further class to Brisbane's stocks.

With Boyd sitting on his left shoulder after Saturday's win, Bennett was happy to pencil him in, too.

"He'll be there, it'll be done," the coach said.

Battling to operate within the salary cap's restraints, the Broncos may be forced to allow Adam Blair an early release, while Newcastle outbid the Broncos to acquire the services of Tautau Moga and Herman Ese'ese as of next season.

"We've done a remarkable job with so many players coming off contract in one year," Bennett said.

"(Broncos recruitment chief) Peter Nolan's led that for us and we've managed to keep a core of them and get Jack Bird on top of it."

Boyd, who began his career under Bennett at Red Hill before following the coach to St George Illawarra and Newcastle, is reported to be in line for a four-year contract worth around $4 million.
