British actor Stephen Fry has been discharged from hospital after spending nearly a week under the care of doctors.

The funnyman, who has been filming the new season of 24 in the UK, was admitted to an undisclosed medical facility last Wednesday to treat painful skin condition cellulitis.

He was given antibiotics to combat the infection, and left hospital on Monday after undergoing a MRI scan.

Fry announced his release from hospital in a post on his Twitter page.

"Gosh, that MRI took a long time. With contrast dye in the blood and without: over an hour. But I'm freeeee! Hurrah and thanks, lovely staff."
