A British lawmaker has been praised after revealing to parliament he is HIV positive.
On Thursday, Labour's Lloyd Russell-Moyle told the House of Commons about his 10-year "journey from the fear of acceptance and, today, hopefully advocacy".
"I wanted to be able to stand here in this place and say to those that are living with HIV that their status does not define them. We can be whoever we want to be," the 32-year-old said.
"And to those who have not been tested, maybe because of out of fear, I say to you: it is better to live in knowledge than to die in fear."
The speech, intended to mark Friday's World AIDS Day, was met with rousing applause from fellow lawmakers followed by an outpouring of support on social media.
Mr Russell-Moyle later tweeted "I know how much today's reaction would have meant to 22 year old me. Thank you".
