British police seek terror suspect

A terrorism suspect is still on the run after giving British police the slip when he changed into a burka at a west London mosque.

British police are still searching for a terrorism suspect who escaped surveillance by changing into a burka while visiting a mosque.

Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed, 27, was last seen at a mosque in west London on Friday, counterterrorism police say.

They released CCTV images showing him entering the mosque wearing western clothing and leaving several hours later in the burka.

Somali-born Mohamed had been subject to a special terrorism prevention and investigation notice, meaning police suspect him of involvement in terrorism but do not believe it is possible to prosecute.

The rarely-imposed notice imposes travel, residency and financial restrictions, and has a maximum time limit of two years.

An anonymity order was lifted by the courts to allow police to make an appeal to the public for information about Mohamed, who they said was not considered to be a "direct threat" to the public.

Home Secretary Theresa May told parliament Mohamed's escape was a "serious issue" and that police were "doing everything in their power to apprehend him as quickly as possible".
