Customers were surprised when former President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden wandered into a bakery in Washington, DC to share lunch.

Mr Obama and Biden were spotted on Monday ordering from the menu at the Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown, which is owned and operated by a nonprofit organisation that empowers veterans and their spouses following injuries in the line of duty.

The appearance had customers stunned as the pair were filmed chatting to the staff before shaking hands and taking photos outside the bakery.

Joe Biden served as 47th vice president between 2009 to 2017 under the Obama administration.

He has recently been considering running for the Democratic Party's presidential nominee in 2020.

Earlier this month when speaking in Colombia, the former vice president said he would decide whether to run by January.
