Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold believes rising star Payne Haas will learn a lesson from the Broncos' tough love approach.
Haas has been suspended from all playing duties until the end of round four and fined $20,000 after failing to co-operate with the NRL's integrity unit.
The Broncos announced the sanction on Wednesday, saying the club had spent months trying to convince Haas to speak to the unit regarding two off-field incidents involving the 19-year-old's family members.
While Haas has not committed any alleged acts of violence and the investigation has now closed, the Broncos felt the prop's level of co-operation fell short of club standards.
Seibold, who was consulted over the punishment, said it was up to Haas to get the message from the sanction.
"Payne understands this is an opportunity to learn," Seibold said.
"He's a 19-year-old kid, he'll learn from this.
"Payne's accepted that decision. He was really adamant that he wants to work really hard over the next block of time and repay the club."
The suspension means Haas won't be available until round five against Wests Tigers.
Seibold hinted it won't be a case of coming straight back into the team when his suspension ends either.
'The guys who get the jerseys for round one, it's there's to keep so to speak," he said.
"They'll have the jersey and they won't want to hand over that jersey lightly.
"I wouldn't say Payne's going to walk into the team."
Seibold says the punishment shows the values he and the Broncos' management want to set.
It also comes with off-field behaviour and player sanctions being a hot topic after several incidents across the NRL this summer.
"We've probably shown with our actions with Payne what we think about the off-field behaviour. The actions that we've shown during the week suggest we take a strong stance."
