Australian Sandy Brondello has agreed to a new multi-year contract as coach of WNBA team the Phoenix Mercury.

The Mercury announced the deal on Thursday, with the 48-year-old former WNBL, WNBA and Opals player also continuing to serve as vice president of player personnel.

``I'm very excited to continue to be the head coach of the Phoenix Mercury,'' Brondello said.

``I appreciate the organisation believing in me as a coach and the vision I have for this team moving forward.''

Brondello took over the team in November 2013 and led the Mercury to their third WNBA title in 2014.

She was honoured that season as the WNBA's coach of the year. The Mercury were 16-18 this season and are 65-37 in three years under Brondello.
